IIIIIIttt’ssss TTTiiiimmeee!!!!

Well I’ve made my return to the blogosphere before 2015 ! You lucky lucky things..

So where have I been, what’s been occurring and do I still play online poker?!

1. Lots of places

2. Lot’s of stuff

3. Yes!

See ya next week everyone!

Hah not really.

So my last post was sent from my temporary home at Glastonbury Festival, at the time I was doing a little bankroll challenge with $11. I never got any further with it as the longer I was there, the more work there was and less time to play cards.

It was an incredible experience and I feel very fortunate to have met a lot of amazing people and very proud to have been a part of the team that puts on one of the worlds premier music festivals. All that said it was also the nail in the coffin for my potential events industry career. After years of working towards doing events full time and being convinced it was what I was meant to be doing for work, I realised it wasn’t…

It was nothing to do with the work, or the people, more what I want and need for myself right now in life. I do not want the insane life style that comes with events work, all the time away from home and living out of hotels/caravans/tents etc for months of the year. It was quite the realisation to have after really pushing myself into this industry more and more the last few years. But hey no regrets, I loved it all and met a ton of amazing people and did some pretty damn awesome stuff.

So, poker.

When I returned from Glastonbury I was ready to get back to the grind with the guys at Global Staking but unfortunately Viktor my coach had moved on to other things and I was left floundering around and not really playing much. After a chat with the guys at GS we decided to part ways with no hard feelings from either party. Then the hunt for a new coach/backer started!

After a little time thinking I remembered speaking with Tim64 in the past. Those of you that know online poker will probably know the name, he is an incredibly well respect and highly thought of player who also runs a stable and coaching operation. We had already had a brief coaching session some months ago so were slightly familiar with each other and I thought it would be a good fit, and approached him.

That’s where we are now, I am part of his stable, On the Stoop. My contract is similar to before, I have agreed to play 1,000 SnGs/month, so I only do one report rather than previous weekly ones. It’s been just over a week since I started and here’s my results so far.

Bit of a heater at the end!

Bit of a heater at the end!

I’m behind on volume at the moment as I took things slowly to start, and was only playing 4-6 tables. I’m now back to 8 or 9 and feeling good. But I have to make up a lot of games quickly!

I’m going to start adding my HANDS OF THE WEEEEK (sounds better in my head when said in a dramatic voice than it does typed..) I will refrain from using this as a platform to post bad beats and whine, because, ain’t nobody got time for that.

Hand 1 this week is, a Royal Flush! I cannot remember the last time I got one of these and got paid. To be fair the guy did butcher the hand and just donated me his chips when he could’ve just checked behind on the turn.

Hand 2  Is a rather funny one. I’m obviously never raise folding TT here, I just wasn’t expecting to get it in 3 ways!

That’s about it for now, see you all next Sunday.

GL at the tables.

Somewhere In a Field in Somerset!

Hello, and greetings from hippy central!

This blog post is being written from my palatial caravan in a field in Somerset!

As you guys know I had to return my stake money and cash in my bonuses the other week. As a result I didn’t think there would br anything worth reporting blog wise, but I was wrong! HAH!

So, I ended up having 274fpps or something left on my account, so one bored evening I fired up a 235fpps Satty to the Sunday Storm for teh lulz. I won! wooooooooh! So that gave me T$11 in my account, now I originally was just gonna spazz around with this for some fun, but then thought NO!

Let’s try and do something interesting with it and at the same time keep my brain in mode for poker so I’m not a total spazztard after having a month off. I’ve decided to do a little bankroll challenge for myself over the next few weeks. As the wifi is crap, and I only have my laptop I’ve opted to 1 or 2 table $1.50 6m turbo SnGs. Rather than my usual 10-15 tabling of $7s.

So it’s been a big week as you can imagine, lets so how I’m getting on so far!

With a whopping 58% ROI I am a poker GOD! 😉

My plan is to keep grinding up the $1.50s til I reach about $35 then I will start adding a $3.50 here and there and so on and so forth and see what I can do. The $1.50s as you would expect are lol bad, there’s one “reg” who has played 16k games and multitables and loses consistently. Who knows maybe he’s somehow the only SuperNova at the $1 fiddies ever and just plays 24/7 ….. no

So yea that’s about it, I don’t have much time or the want to play that much, but this little challenge should be fun and keep my hand in. I will keep you all posted.

Have a good week at the tables!

Just…one more thing…

Hello Hello, how the devil is everyone?

I know it’s been a while but I thought it was a good time for an update. My previous blog was aaalllll the way back in February, so when it comes to the posting of results I am going to post the graph from the date of my last blog up until today.

As you guys know (because you are all avid readers and have been waiting patiently since my last post 😉 ) the start of the year was incredibly harsh, I was down quite a few buyins very rapidly (48.5 at one point). Thankfully that has turned around in the months since then as you’ll see.

After the rough start I kept working with my coach Viktor and the guys at Global Staking who were great about it all. They made sure I kept my head straight and didn’t get phased by this swing at the start of the year and our contract. I would also like to thank Pete (Solidthought) and Ricky (straddlester) for putting up with my occasional whines! cheers guys 🙂

My results steadily improved over the coming weeks and months which was very encouraging. The main issue however even on weeks that I was crushing, seemed to be my finish distribution. I was logging far too many 2nd place finishes vs 1st places. With the 65% 1st, 35% 2nd payout structure in 6 max this gets incredibly costly incredibly quickly.

I seemed to have slipped back into a habit I used to have of getting far too complacent once the bubble finishes and HU (heads up) starts. Instead of reading players and situations I was just waiting for hands or making too thinner calls or reshoves. After focusing a few coaching session purely on HU this improved however. We did a mixture of HH review, live sweats and I even played a few HU Sngs against Viktor to really find out what was going on.

So everything has been going pretty damn well still, poker and life stuff. The reason for this impromptu update is as I’m going to be away for the next month and unable to grind, so it seemed like a good time.

So here are my results from February 2nd (date of last blog post) until today!

Games: 2391

Profit: $885.98 + $175 in VIP bonuses = $1060.98

ROI: 5.29% (pre bonuses)

Feb - July

Feb 2nd – Jun 3rd

I am extremely, extremely happy with this, I feel I’ve been playing well and really fought through the rough patch and came out a better player. Off the back of these results I have also agreed with GS that I can take some shots at $15 SnGs when I get back in July. So happy days!!!

So that’s about it for now, given what my updates have been like so far this year I’ll probably see you all again sometime in 2015 😉

Take care everyone, good luck at the tables.

Bish Bash Bosh!

Hi guys, happy Sunday.

Not a great deal to report this week in poker so I will keep it short.

I played a total of 0 sngs this week, I started a new job and it was also my birthday, this combined with training 2 nights in the week didn’t leave any time for a proper grinding session. I did however play some TCOOP satellites, which I won one of for $215 these were paid for using frequent player points (FPPs) on Pokerstars, I played 6x 150 FPP tournaments and binked , so pretty good ROI!

The great thing about winning that $ is that it got me out of makeup with my backers, so I’m back to even nice and quickly, which feels good.

In other news, the new job is great, and life fucking rocks right now! I am slightly concerned that this year has started off far too well and it will turn into a train wreck soon, but hopefully not! I can honestly say I haven’t felt this happy with my life in years, and I would like to say thank you to everyone that’s been there for me the last few years, it’s been an odd time and I know I haven’t always made things easy!

me doing my happy dance!

So on to next week, now with work I obviously can’t grind everyday for hours so I am going to have to schedule sessions in evenings and weekends around Krav Maga and general life.

Apologies for the lack of SnG based stuff this week, I will get some sessions in and have some numbers and stats and poker stuff next week! Take care everyone, have a great week and GL at the tables.

Brand New Year, Brand New Blog!

Hola and happy new year! Yes I know it’s a bit late, but I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Years.

So as you all may have noticed… the blog has been gone for some months now. But I’m back baby yeaaaaaaa!

For those of you that were with me around this time last year you will remember my new years post and goal setting. The plan was to hit Supernova VIP atlas once last year, plus some other goals. This however did not happen, mainly due to my laziness and work ethic faltering slightly as the year progressed!

So here we are again, new year, new blog, new mission.

To bring you up to speed a bit, the tail end of last year was pretty dire in terms of everything poker related. My volume of games was way down, I wasn’t studying enough and also seemed to get slightly doom switched and couldn’t win a hand.

All that said, it’s pretty standard stuff and nothing none of us have dealt with before. So that brings us to this year! New year, new arrangements and plans! So the most notable change for this years grind is that I am no longer playing with my own money. For those of you that play poker and know about backers/stakers you will understand what I’m talking about, for those that don’t, here’s an explanation.

I am now part of a stable of players for a group called Global Staking. This means that they give me money to play with and also supply coaching and a support network of other grinders and coaches to work with.

Why do they do this you might ask, or why would I want to do this given that I’m a winning player with my own bankroll. So, they do it as for them it’s an investment, they and I both know based on my long term results that I’m a winning player and a worthwhile investment. Why would I want to do this? Well a few reasons;

 1) It means a lot of the stress of the swings gets removed as I’m not sat there sweating the money, this enables me to play better poker as there is no fear from playing with scared money.

 2) It means I get coaching for free in a sense as I get regular sessions without paying an hourly or set fee like I would if I was going solo.

 3) Poker can be rather stressful at times and especially when things aren’t going well it can get hard to keep positive and believe in yourself. Having the support and belief in ones abilities from a backer, and support from a coach goes a long way to keeping focused and positive.

So what do they get out of it? Money ultimately, although as we all know with poker this is by no means a guaranteed steady income for them, it is about long term investment. They get 50% of any winnings above my initial stake, baed on the weekly reports I send in (which conveniently are done on Sundays as well)

How’s it all been going then? Well not terribly well to begin with! The first week of being staked I was severely ill with tonsillitis and couldn’t grind. The second week I got crushed, I was playing badly and running badly. Upon review of a lot of hands I was making questionable bubble plays and generally not on my A-game. I somehow managed a streak of 30 games with only 2 ITM finishes! I’ve never seen anything like it. Now I’ve been unable to play due to issues with BT broadband customers and connecting to Pokerstars. This issue also cost me around 18 buyins when I got disconnected twice during sessions and was unable to reconnect. So not off to a terribly good start! As a result of this time off however I have been able to do a lot of study work and get my head back in the game after rather a long hiatus.

In non SnG news I have been having repeatedly deep runs in a few MTTs on Full Tilt and Pokerstars, I keep getting some what coolered for very important pots when about 30-40bb deep. Oh well maybe I’ll bink one some day! In totally non poker news, I am still doing Krav Maga and loving it! WE have grading soon, and cannot wait, as I missed the previous one last year. Life is good, its going to be a good year, and I aim to be back at the $15 SnGs in no time! Hopefully these issues with BT get resolved and I can grind properly next week, thanks for checking in guys, see you next Sunday.

Here is a graph from the year so far!

Prop Bet Madness!

Hey everyone, I hope you have all had a great week and weekend.

So this week has been the best 5 days poker I’ve had ever I think. I setup a prop bet with a few friends of mine, the bet being that I could play 1,300 SnGs in 5 day from Monday-Friday. This works out as an average of 260 games/day. Prior to this week my personal best for 1 day was 257 games and that was a one off day, not doing it for 5 continuous days. This was going to be a lot tougher than my previous bet as well where the average was 207 games/day over 8 days.

Monday, here we go!

Well it seems the run good from last week was still present! God mode was fully engaged, I haven’t had a session like this in as long as I can remember! As everyone knows I don’t check my results until the end of the week, so I had no idea how well the session had actually gone, but there seemed to be an insane amount of bubbles and HU running for the entire session. I played about 215 games 15 tabling pretty much the entire time, then went to Krav and played again for a little bit when I got home. I then stopped, had a beer and watched Game of Thrones, life is fantastic sometimes! I am also quite glad I haven’t read the books because OMG what an episode, bat shit crazy y0!

The rest of the week was ouch of the same, I put in long days and managed to play 15-18 tables the entire time! This is a personal best for me, as before I have only been playing 12 and it’s great to feel relatively comfortable with increasing the games to 15. On Wednesday I think it was (the days blurred together after the long sessions!) I made a side bet with a friend of mine that I could play 300 games in 1 day! The deal was I had to stop regging by midnight, I got incredibly close according to sharkscope I played 295!! Painfully close! Oh well it was a tiny bet for $10 so no harm done, but it was the most intense day I’ve had in my life and I can’t quite believe I played that many games. bens prop bet meme

The week was going incredibly well until Friday! I somehow made a huge error in tracking the amount of games I had played, and when I thought I had a 180 games left which wasn’t looking too bad. Upon closer inspection it became clear that I actually had 275 left at about 5pm Friday……

By this point I was incredibly tired and getting quite irritable and was also finding it hard to keep 10 or more games running. I could feel myself drifting off and losing concentration and I was also beginning to make misclicks and mistakes more frequently.

I decided to abandon the bet, this was because I really felt that I was playing awful poker and really struggling to keep going. I also wanted to get out of the house and socialise in the evening and not grind until midnight again. I had an incredible week already and really didn’t feel I needed to put myself through the extra pain on Friday night. I did feel like a quitter, I might have been able todo it if I had a rest for an hour then played late into the night, but this really wasn’t appealing at the time!

So overall I’m incredibly happy with this week, other than losing the bets! 18 tabling was immense and playing 295 games in one day was insane! I also got an awesome score on the Battle of Planets weekly leader board. I had 1st place for the entire week until Friday when someone else went a sick heater and put me into 2nd. This is still good for a $300 bonus though so I can’t complain too much.

Now the fun bit, the numbers and the money!

Games: 1,094 w00p w00p

Profit/Loss: $516.14

Coaching/Review: 0/2

So there we go, that’s 2 weeks running with decent profit which is a much needed boost, both financially and mentally as I was really struggling after the last few months of running bad and not being able to win a hand.

touchdown dance

I don’t think there will be a blog next week as I’m really busy all week and won’t get to play much, if at all. Have a great week everyone, and I will see you all soon.

Back Once Again

Hellooooooo everyone!

Sorry about the lack of posts recently, the combination of being busy and not getting to play as much and also running bad hasn’t made for much interesting news poker wise.

In a coaching session the other week I spent some time going over my stats in PT3 and checking my overall EV graph for the year. This confirmed my suspicions that I had been running below EV by quite some way. I have had run bad before but never over this large of a sample of games and over this much time (5 months now!).

It is really starting to wear thin and I have been finding it increasingly difficult to keep a positive out look and not to let negativity seep into my mindset and games while playing. I’ve had several blowups/melt downs mid session over the last few weeks which has not helped the situation. Some of this was related to poker and some was to do with the new improved wifi in the house, which is actually worse than the previous one. The connection drops out randomly, sometimes for 5 seconds sometimes for a minute or more. I’ve had it drop with 15 tables going and by the time I’ve managed to reconnect there has only been 9 remaining, costing me $ and stressing me out in the process! There has been a few proper “omg da fuk does it all mean” moments.

Usually followed by a feeling something like this…

BOOM Headshot

BOOM Headshot

I am now in a position where I have a week before my next bit of work starts so in order to maximise the time I have available and also to kick my arse into gear again  I have decided to arrange another volume prop bet similar to the one I did at the beginning of the year. If anyone is interested in getting involved in this bet get in touch with me on twitter or Skype and I’ll fill you in on the details. I was thinking about going for Platinum again in a week, but it works out as  roughly 315 games/day for 8 days straight, which even for a prop bet to push my volume of games is still incredibly unrealistic. So I am currently trying to work out a similar but more realistic challenge for myself. In my previous bet I played 1,668 SnGs in 8 days, so I’ll be looking to beat that! So next weeks blog update should be rather interesting and you will see how I got on with the bet!

In other news I’ve now been doing Krav Maga for over a month, and am fully in love with it. I even went to an extra session on a Sunday morning last week! This has really been helping my mindset by keeping me active and healthy and I really think that if I didn’t have this as a release during these crappy poker times I would be struggling even more to get through it. I’m also finding it good as it’s a bit of routine and structure in my life, which as you guys will know from reading this blog are things i struggle with a lot, and I really feel I benefit from having this and not being left to my own devices all the time.

So this week I only managed to play for a day and a bit, but lets check the figures out!

Games: 179

Coaching/Review: 0/1

Profit/Loss: + $379.37

A site for sore eyes!

A site for sore eyes!

Well that’s a pleasant surprise, it felt like another break-even kind of week! I know it’s not about results and I shouldn’t let winning or losing affect me emotionally but I do have a lil smile on my face now after how rough the last few months have been! 🙂

Next week is gonna be a mad one, I might make a lil post on here when I work out the prop bet details just to keep everyone up to date.

Have a good Sunday all, and I’ll see you next week 🙂
